Pain is actually Nagato Uzumaki, an orphan from the Land of Rain who grew up amidst war and suffering. Trained by Jiraiya alongside Konan and Yahiko, Nagato develops a radical worldview after Yahiko’s tragic death. Taking the name Pain, he seizes control of Akatsuki with the aim of ending all conflicts by enforcing peace through suffering.
Pain is the first wielder of the Rinnegan seen in the series, granting him supernatural abilities and total mastery over chakra. He divides his power among Six Paths, each with a specific role:
Tendō: Gravity manipulation, enabling Shinra Tensei and Chibaku Tensei.
Gakidō: Chakra absorption, rendering opponents powerless.
Shuradō: A cybernetic body equipped with devastating mechanical weapons.
Ningendō: Soul extraction, instantly killing enemies.
Chikushōdō: Summons giant, powerful creatures.
Jigokudō: Can judge and restore other bodies using the King of Hell.
Pain’s attack on Konoha is one of the most dramatic moments in Naruto Shippuden. Using Shinra Tensei, he destroys a large portion of the village in one blow. His battle with Naruto, who unlocks Sage Mode, culminates in a philosophical clash over the cycle of hatred.
After his defeat, Pain, influenced by Naruto’s unwavering beliefs, acknowledges his mistakes. In a final act of redemption, he uses Rinne Tensei to revive all those he killed in Konoha, sacrificing himself to bring hope back to the village.
