Bender: The most irreverent robot in the universe

Bender Bending Rodríguez, or simply Bender, is arguably one of animation's most iconic robots, known for his oversized ego, his love of theft and alcohol, and his total disregard for human and robotic laws. Built in 2996 in a factory in Mexico, this bending robot was destined to make beams for suicide cabins... until he decided to embrace a much freer (and illegal) existence. His unlikely friendship with Fry, whom he meets by chance, leads him to join Planet Express as a “crew member”, although he spends more time drinking beer and insulting his colleagues than working.

Bender is a machine of selfishness and sarcasm, a pure anti-hero who steals, cheats and betrays without any scruples... yet remains irresistibly endearing. Able to turn off his emotions at will (but refusing to do so out of laziness), he throws out cult punchlines by the dozen: “Bite my shiny metal ass!” probably being the most famous. Despite his often despicable behavior, he occasionally has moments of loyalty, especially to Fry, whom he secretly considers his best friend.
