An ugly, misanthropic ogre, Shrek, lives quietly and happily in the dirt in the middle of a swamp he believes to be a haven of peace. But one day, his space is invaded by fairytale creatures expelled by the tyrannical Lord Farquaad. Shrek, flanked by The Talkative Donkey, sets off to call the lord to account. But the lord instructs him to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded dungeon and bring her back to him to marry and become king, in exchange for evicting the squatters from his swamp. But Princess Fiona hides a terrifying secret that will lead Shrek and his donkey companion into a thrilling and perilous adventure.
