Description

Weapon X was a military program operating within the Canadian Department K. It was headed by Prof. Thorton, Dr. Abraham Cornelius, Dr. Carol Hines and Dr. Dale Rice. It was headed by Prof. Thorton, Dr. Abraham Cornelius, Dr. Carol Hines and Dr. Dale Rice. John Sublime was also involved in the project, but in a discreet way. Some of the work was based on the experiments of Nazi scientist Nathaniel Essex (Mister Sinister's secret identity), recovered at the end of the Second World War.

The first subjects of the experiments were members of Team X, a group of CIA secret agents: Logan (the future Wolverine), Victor Creed (the future Sabretooth), David North (the future Maverick), Silver Fox, Mastodon and John Wraith. The telepath Psi-Borg (Aldo Ferro) was used to create false memories implanted in patients, in exchange for extended life by scientific means. The organization also manufactured Shiva-class robots, in case patients became uncontrollable.

It was learned much later that Weapon X was an offshoot of the Weapon Plus project, created in the 1940s to develop super-soldiers and assassins for use in warfare and mutant threats.

It was here that Logan underwent a graft to cover his bones with adamantium, to turn him into a super-killer. The graft was orchestrated by Romulus.

Weapon X's plans failed when Wolverine, in a state of animal rage, escaped from the complex, killing Dr. Rice and dozens of employees. Malcolm Colcord, one of the mutilated soldiers, became the new Director years later.
