Baylan Skoll was a Force-sensitive human and former Jedi Knight during the era of the Galactic Republic, who survived Order 66. He claimed to have known Anakin Skywalker and was one of the few people in the galaxy to know the true identity of Darth Vader. Baylan Skoll owned a red-orange lightsaber.

During the New Republic era, Baylan Skoll and his apprentice Shin Hati were mercenaries working for Morgan Elsbeth. All three were working to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, banished by Ezra Bridger to Peridea, in a neighboring galaxy. To this end, Elsbeth supervised the construction of the Eye of Zion on the planet Seatos. While Skoll was in charge of transmitting the coordinates of Peridea to the Eye of Zion, he was attacked by the former Togruta Jedi Ahsoka Tano, who sought to seize the map in order to find her friend Ezra and prevent Thrawn's return.
