Description
Anakin Skywalker, or Darth Vader, is a fictional character, first a Jedi knight then a Sith lord, and the central figure in the first two trilogies of the Star Wars film saga conceived by George Lucas.
In the original trilogy of A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, he is introduced as Darth Vader, a menacing cyborg clad and masked in black, in the service of the Emperor. Vader is the main villain of the original trilogy. He also appears in the Rogue One spin-off, set just before A New Hope.
The prequel, comprising The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, explores Anakin Skywalker's childhood and youth, detailing the reasons and circumstances behind his transformation into an evil character.
His upbringing as a Jedi under Obi-Wan Kenobi, his switch to the dark side of the Force to become Emperor Palpatine's apprentice and swordman, his eventual redemption to fulfill his destiny - to restore balance to the Force and eliminate the Sith - and his fathering of twins Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, form the main plot of the first two trilogies.
