Konoha (木ノ葉隠れの里, Konohagakure no Sato, literally meaning: Village Hidden by Tree Leaves) is one of the five great ninja villages and is one of the most powerful. As such, it is one of the five villages to have a Kage as village head, known as the Hokage. In Konoha, the Hokage Monument stands just above the Hokage residence. The village lies in a volcanic area of the Land of Fire. Although Konoha is very powerful, it has been peaceful for the last sixteen years and has become accustomed to this peace. It remains one of the most powerful villages in existence and has great military power.

Konoha is the hidden village of the Leaf and ensures the protection of the Land of Fire. The word Konoha was given by Madara Uchiwa and the word Hokage was given by Hashirama Senju. Konoha is also reputed to have been the most powerful village of the Big Five during the rivalry between the Senju clan and the Uchiwa clan, as they were the most powerful clans in the ninja world, and Konoha currently boasts many powerful clans.
