SCP-955 – The Labyrinth Mirror

SCP-955 is a circular artifact resembling an ancient mirror, surrounded by a metal frame adorned with winding, maze-like engravings. Discovered by a group of urban explorers in the overgrown ruins of an abandoned temple, it captured the SCP Foundation’s attention immediately due to the peculiar events reported upon its retrieval. Observers who stare at SCP-955 for extended periods describe seeing reflections that do not align with the actual surroundings: hooded figures lurking in the background, endless corridors twisting upon themselves, and flickers reminiscent of dancing will-o’-the-wisps. It appears that the artifact interacts with the viewer’s imagination while maintaining a degree of autonomy, as though it possesses an inner reality of its own.

As research continues, Foundation scientists note that SCP-955’s visions differ for each observer. Some perceive ghostly medieval apparitions, while others witness surreal landscapes defying all physical laws. Initial findings suggest that the object taps into the deepest fears and memories of those who gaze upon it, creating personalized illusions. Surprisingly, although primarily visual, SCP-955 also exerts a subtle influence on the human psyche. Multiple personnel have reported unsettling dreams after standing before the mirror—haunting visions of an infinite labyrinth whose layout changes nightly. Additionally, surveillance teams have documented faint murmurs or whispered voices, despite the artifact having no obvious cavity or mechanism to produce sounds.

Currently, SCP-955 resides in a dedicated observation chamber, equipped with continuous infrared and ultrasonic monitoring to detect any unusual energy fluctuations or auditory anomalies. However, the Foundation remains vigilant regarding the potential risks of interacting with this mirror. Certain staff members suspect SCP-955 might have the ability to “trap” fragments of consciousness within its reflections, or at least disrupt an individual’s grip on reality. Consequently, researchers proceed with caution, fully aware of the mirror’s bewitching allure and its possible dangers. The central enigma persists: Is SCP-955 merely an optical illusion with psychotropic properties, or does it serve as a doorway to another plane of existence?
