Origin and Creation of Pogs
It’s hard to talk about the 90s without mentioning Pogs, those small cardboard discs that took over schoolyards worldwide. The origin of Pogs dates back to 1920s Hawaii, where children played a similar game using bottle caps from Passion Orange Guava (POG) juice. It wasn’t until 1991 that Stadium Talk revived the concept, sparking a massive craze among kids and collectors alike.
Product Description
A Pog is a small, rigid cardboard disc, often decorated with colorful designs, characters, or popular logos. The game involved stacking multiple Pogs and then using a Slammer (a thicker piece, usually made of plastic or metal) to knock them over. The player who flipped the most Pogs won the round—and often kept their opponents’ Pogs as trophies!
Beyond the fun gameplay, Pogs were also a collector’s dream. Many famous franchises like Marvel, Pokémon, and Star Wars released their own series, making some Pogs highly sought after.
Although the Pog craze faded by the late 90s, these small discs remain a nostalgic symbol of the era and are still treasured by collectors today.
