SCP-1499 is a Soviet GP-5 gas mask. A leak test showed that the object still fulfills its main function. The abnormal effects of SCP-1499 are visible when a human being places it on his or her head. About 1 second after the mask is placed, the subject disappears, and is no longer detectable. Tests have shown that radios and other means of communication still work, despite the fact that the subject is undetectable. By putting on SCP-1499, subjects find themselves in a completely different place from where they were before. Subjects reported that the place they were in seemed inhospitable, with large black towers positioned by the dozens. The subjects were also able to observe entities in this territory. These entities, designated SCP-1499-1, were described as large, naked humanoids, with dark skin covered in an unknown viscous substance. These SCP-1499-1 also have a large number of eyes and mouths on their bodies. By removing SCP-1499 from their heads, subjects reappear where they were before putting it on.
