Description

Item no.: SCP-718

Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: No long-term observations of SCP-718 are to be made. All observations and interactions of any kind must be broken down into 5- and 10-minute periods, with staff rotation every twenty-four hours. Extreme care must be taken with SCP-718, and full hazmat suits must be worn by all personnel. Any damage to SCP-718 must be reported as soon as possible.

Any member of staff observing or interacting with SCP-718 for longer than recommended must be removed, using force if necessary. Any staff member acting erratically or violently should be transferred.

Description: SCP-718 is an eye, approximately the size of a baseball. It is supported by a long, thin rod of tendons and blood vessels. It stands 1.22 m (4 ft.) high and doesn't seem to require food or excrete waste. The eye will turn and stare at any living entity in its field of vision. The rod can make limited movements and will follow living entities over a short distance. SCP-718 will also stare at observation equipment in its containment zone if no living entity is present. SCP-718 seems to prefer looking at humans rather than other animals.

SCP-718's gaze can induce discomfort and paranoia after a very short time, often resulting in an attempt by the subject to destroy SCP-718. The eye, if damaged, will explode, spraying a clear liquid onto all nearby surfaces before drying out and reducing to powder. On contact with the fluid, the affected surfaces will develop what look like light-colored blisters, gradually turning black. After twenty-four hours, the “blister” will burst and a 20.32 cm (8-inch) copy of SCP-718 will emerge. This copy will grow to its final size within a few days. This phenomenon occurs on all organic and many inorganic surfaces.
