Description

Petit Ours Brun is a series of short illustrated stories for children about a brown bear cub and his parents. It appeared in Pomme d'Api magazine from 1975, and as albums published by Bayard. It was created by Claude Lebrun and illustrated by Danièle Bour. Various scriptwriters succeeded its creator, including Marie Aubinais.

The character of Petit Ours Brun was created in the 1970s by Claude Lebrun, a literature teacher at the Lycée Chateaubriand in Rennes, who was tired of telling her children classic tales. She quickly contacted the children's magazine Pomme d'Api and proposed the story of a teddy bear who makes good resolutions on his third birthday: dressing himself, setting the table, going potty. Positive feedback from delighted readers led to the character's perpetuation. The editorial team reworked the character with psychologists, focusing on his intimacy - a novelty at the time, when adventure stories and humorous characters dominated. Between 1975 and the early 1980s, Claude Lebrun published some forty of these stories, all illustrated by Danièle Bour, who used a clean, colorful design that was easy for young children to read.
