Harry Potter is a low-fantasy literary series written by British author J. K. Rowling, whose novel sequel was completed in 2007. A stage play, considered the official “eighth story”, was performed and published in 2016. The books and the script for the play have been translated into French by Jean-François Ménard.

The seven-novel series follows the adventures of a young wizard named Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, headed by Albus Dumbledore. The main plot of the series features Harry's battle against Lord Voldemort, a black wizard seeking immortality who once murdered the boy's parents. Leading his loyal followers, the Death Eaters, Voldemort has been seeking absolute power over the wizarding and Muggle worlds (humans without magical powers) for decades.
