Sailor Moon is a Japanese media franchise, including manga, anime, musicals, drama, video games and various spin-off products, created by Naoko Takeuchi in 1992.

Each adaptation of the franchise follows the adventures of Usagi Tsukino, an ordinary, awkward teenager who is in reality Sailor Moon, a heroine with magical powers. Fighting evil in the name of love and justice, she is joined by numerous allies, all under the protection of a planet in the Solar System.

Although criticized for its repetitive and uneven storyline, Sailor Moon became a worldwide best-selling series and contributed to the revival of the magical girl genre. In 1993, the book won the Kōdansha Manga Award in the shōjo category, while the Japanese animated film won the Anime Grand Prix in 1992. The latter was broadcast in France in December 1993, and the manga was published two years later by Glénat. At the same time, the series was adapted into several musicals from 1993, then spun off into a Japanese drama in 2003, before being made into a cartoon again, entitled Sailor Moon Crystal, from 2014.
