Description

Fort Boyard, called Les Clés de Fort Boyard in its first season, is a French game show created in 1990 by Jacques Antoine, Jean-Pierre Mitrecey and Pierre Launais.

The French show and its adaptations for other countries, produced by Adventure Line Productions, are filmed at Fort Boyard in Charente-Maritime.

In France, it has been broadcast every summer since July 7, 1990 on Antenne 2, then France 2, and is regarded as one of the summer season's flagship shows.

Filmed on the eponymous fortification located between the islands of Aix and Oléron, Fort Boyard is a televised game show in which a team of six contestants (three teams of four in 2010, one team of five in 2020) performs various physical and intellectual tests to win a treasure (in boyards, the show's fictitious currency). The team is surrounded by the "population of the fort" (so named in 1990), characters who reinforce the mysterious and fantastic atmosphere of the place.
