Description

Dialga, like Palkia Arceus Giratina and the 3 guardians of the lakes, is inspired by Hindu mythology. It represents Shiva, associated with change through destruction of the world and the passing of time. Its blue appearance is reminiscent of Shiva. The conical shape of its head evokes Shiva's chignon (Jata-mukuta). The light-blue fluids flowing down Dialga are a reference to the Ganges, which flows down Shiva's body from his head.

It's said of Dialga that it's the beat of his heart that moves time forward, while for Shiva it's the beat of his drum (Damaru) that moves time forward. Dialga's appearance seems to be inspired by certain sauropods, such as Camarasaurus or Brachytrachelopan.

Its Steel type probably comes from the hardness of diamonds and the fact that this metal is known to stand the test of time, but also from the fact that most parts of a clock are made of metal, such as the gears. Moreover, diamonds are made of compressed carbon, and steel is an alloy of iron and carbon. The turquoise parts of its body are vaguely reminiscent of clock hands, the ends of which can be made of diamonds.
