Description

Bugs Bunny was officially created in 1940 by Leon Schlesinger Productions (later Warner Bros. Cartoons).

Bugs is an anthropomorphic gray hare or rabbit, known for his prankster nature and, above all, for his trademark phrase "Uh... What's up, Doc?

He's the leader of the Looney Tunes characters. He's ranked as the world's ninth most-represented film personality, and the cartoon character who has appeared most often in films and cartoons, notably during the golden age of American animation, in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series shorts.

His popularity led to him becoming a mascot for Warner Bros.

Bugs' first prototype appeared on screen in Ben Hardaway and Cal Dalton's Porky's Hare Hunt (1938). He became the character we know today under Tex Avery's pen in A Wild Hare (1940), produced by Chuck Jones.

Originally, he was to be called Happy Rabbit, but at Mel Blanc's suggestion, he was named after his creator Ben Hardaway, whose nickname was Bugs.
