Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Red Witch ("Scarlet Witch" in French), is a superheroine in the Marvel Universe published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the fictional character first appeared in the comic book X-Men (vol. 1) #4 in March 1964.

Both mutant and sorceress, the Red Witch began her career as a super-villain as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, alongside her father Magneto and brother Silver Lifter. She later returned to the straight and narrow and began a career as a heroine, mainly as a member of the Avengers.

Beginning her career during the Silver Age of comics, the Red Witch has been part of the Marvel universe for over 50 years. Wizard magazine ranked her 97th on its list of "The 200 Greatest Comic Book Characters of All Time".

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character of Wanda Maximoff is played by actress Elizabeth Olsen from the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron. The series WandaVision (2021) focuses on her character, the first time after her appearance in the cinema that the name "Red Witch" has been attributed to her.
